Got turned on to this delicious tumblr this morning. Couldn't even post this until I went home and got my chomp on.
For you Jax cats, PK Noodles (Pho King) on Beach Blvd. has some unreal bánh mì for between $3 and $5. Great pho, too, if yr so inclined.
Dark Was The Night is probably the 4000th AIDS benefit comp released by the Red Hot Organization. Two of the previous comps, No Alternative and Red, Hot + Bothered, featured some of the premier independent musicians of the 90s, and were undoubtedly formative albums in my musical development. Freedom Cruise, anyone?
This two-disc set's loaded with heavy hitters, too. (Dig the tracklist at the album's website, which, incidentally, has a few great marketing concepts for those of you interested in such matters.) The crucial jam, though, is a collaboration between one of the most dynamic fringe acts in music today and an artist whose 30+ year body of work still inspires old and new artists alike.
Dirty Projectors and David Byrne - Knotty Pine
As meetups between highly "opinionated" musicians go, it doesn't get any better than this. Even with that piano in the chorus that sounds like a Windows XP system message.
